Temperature (Air)

From the graph below you will see peaks rising far above that of our baseline (UK), although some of the native countries drop to a lower winter temperature the rapid climb back plus contrasting Summer / Winter values allow the native tortoises sufficient high Summer temperatures to be active and the required lower Winter temperatures to hibernate.

Note: The consistently high temperatures of Egypt shows a clear picture of why T.kleinmanni do not hibernate, Also evident is the small to zero opportunity for adequate hibernation temperatures in Constantine, Algeria ( T.g.graeca).

Average Yearly Temperatures
calculated on monthly figures

From the chart of the left the base (UK) temperature looks promising when compared to some of the lower native countries. But now take a look at the chart on the right and Average High temperatures start to leave our base (UK) value behind.

Precipitation (Rainfall)

Although the graph below appears to be inconclusive at first glance, our baseline (UK) has the highest average rainfall and without the temperatures and sunshine of the native countries the UK will remain wetter due to the slower evaporation.

London, England (Base Line) -
Constantine, Algeria (T.g.graeca) -
Nimes, France (T.h.hermanni) -
Sofia, Bulgaria (T.h.boettgeri) -
Larisa, Greece (T.marginata) -

Sum of Monthly Precipitation Averages

The Chart on the left shows a clear indication to the dry habitat experienced by T.kleinmanni -  Egypt.

And the high rain fall of our reference point of the UK.

Relative Humidity

From the graph below you can see that in the (am) hours the relative humidity readings are all fairly high, but once the sun starts to perform its magic in the (pm) hours the native countries readings begin to fall, and as for our baseline (UK) it drops only a small amount resulting in higher humidity.

Sunlight Hours (daily)

The graph below shows a clear view of how many daily sunlight hours the native countries enjoy and in comparison to our baseline (UK) some are nearly twice as much at peak.

Note: The amount of sunshine hours T.kleinmanni (Egypt) enjoys and that it never drops below 7 hours a day throughout the entire year, whereas our baseline (UK) peeks at 7 hours for only a very short period.

Sum of Monthly Sunlight Averages (Year)

With the chart on the left its clear to see just how little sunlight hours the UK receives in comparison to the native countries.
