Temperature (Air)
|
|
From the graph below you will see peaks
rising far above that of our baseline (UK),
although some of the native countries drop to a lower winter temperature the
rapid climb back plus contrasting Summer / Winter values allow the native
tortoises sufficient high Summer temperatures to be active and the required lower
Winter temperatures to hibernate.
Note: The consistently high temperatures of Egypt shows a
clear picture of why T.kleinmanni do not hibernate, Also evident is the
small to zero opportunity for adequate hibernation temperatures in
Constantine, Algeria (
T.g.graeca).

Average Yearly Temperatures
calculated on monthly figures
|
From the chart
of the left the base (UK) temperature looks promising when compared to some of
the lower native countries. But now take a look at the chart on the right and
Average High temperatures start to leave our base (UK) value behind.

Average High Yearly Temperatures
calculated on monthly figures
|
|
Precipitation (Rainfall)
|
|
Although the graph below appears to be inconclusive at first glance, our
baseline (UK) has the highest average rainfall and without the
temperatures and sunshine of the native countries the UK will remain wetter due to the
slower evaporation.
